Brian J. Steck, market leader and vice president of Fidelity Investments presented Matt Wakeham and Trish Lynch of Garden City Friends of STEAM with a sponsorship check of $3,000 to be used for STEAM education in Garden City Schools.
Friends of STEAM introduce LIRR STEM competition

Members of the LIRR Expansion Project Team introduced their STEM Competition to Middle School and High School students on Tuesday, February 26 at the Garden City Public Library. The event was introduced and sponsored by the Garden City Friends of STEAM.

GCFS funds 3D printer and 3D scanner for science research

Science Research teacher Dr. Steven Gordon recently showed off the Affinia H400, one new piece of equipment funded by GCFS as part of a science research grant for $2,500 that was approved by Garden City’s Board of Education. The grant money has been used to boost student projects incorporating 3D printing, electronics, coding, and biology and chemistry.
Also funded by GCFS was a 3D scanner, which gives students the ability to let their imagination recreate a multitude of scientific components.

Parent University STEM Careers with Dr. Capria

At the 2017 Parent University event, Dr. Craig Capria presented a workshop titled STEM 101 - An Introduction to Tomorrow's Careers, where he discussed the rewards and challenges of STEM related work. He identified which STEM fields will experience the highest levels of growth over the next decade, and discussed how students can prepare for a career in STEM. Friends of STEM hosts ‘Revel for Robotics’ fundraiser

GCFS has once again joined with the award-winning Revel Restaurant and Bar to invite the community to an evening of food, drink and live jazz music that will raise funds for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education and robotics programs in Garden City.
Groundbreaking research into detecting counterfeit drugs and insights into how students view STEM courses were presented by GCHS seniors Alicia Cristoforo and Lindsay Grippo on Monday, May 9 at the Garden City Library.

The talk was part of a “Student to Student” STEM talk series sponsored by the non-profit Garden City Friends of STEM (GCFS) to help educate the public on the numerous career paths available in STEM fields.
